Langston Loves Reading is a quarterly program where members of the community are invited to visit with and read to a K-4th grade class at our HSSD Langston Magnet School. This is a memorable experience for students and readers. Readers of all kinds participate, including volunteers from the Hot Springs community who simply enjoy connecting with children, and community leaders including police officers with the Hot Springs Police Department. Volunteers from local churches participate, the HSSD leadership team including Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Nehus and Associate Superintendents read at the event, and former Langston Magnet teachers and alumni also attend.

In October, a total of 24 readers participated. Readers are encouraged to interact with our students and share about their lives and the things they remember from their time in elementary school. Students enjoy hearing from guests in the classroom and benefit from the personal interaction with volunteers, professionals, leaders, and others that connect them to the Hot Springs community and encourage them by example to take reading and their educational experience seriously.

Langston Loves Reading events will be hosted December 14, March 8, and May 10. If you would like to participate, please contact Mrs. Bernice Lowery at lowreyb@hssd.net.
